What exactly is « Le Var » ?
It’s an area located in south-eastern France, one hour away by car from east Nice and west Marseilles. From Paris, Rome or Madrid, time flight is about one hour and a half. (Conseil Général du Var : www.cg83.fr)

How to come ?
Nice and Marseilles Airports have direct links with the main european cities.
Many National flights are provided by The Toulon-Hyeres Airport, you can also use the railways that connect Toulon to most of the Big French cities. (Paris-Toulon about 3h30). (www.toulon-hyeres.aeroport.fr)
There are also all along the coast many harbours which offers great possibilities of seaborn connections.

What kind of sets and locations can we find in the Var ?
The Var owns numerous natural and urban sites : Lot of white sand beaches, seaford cliffs, ports and villages with their fishermen. Besides, urban and seaside centers, gardens and exotic parks bring diversity to this authentic world.
Hills, lavender fields, sheep flocks, rivers and spectacular falls, forest of pines and oaks, such is the variety of our « Region ».

Can Film studios be found in the Var ?
Main Film studios in south east France are in Nice, the « Studios Riviera » (known in the past under the name of « Studio de la Victorine) and also in Marseille « Les studios du Pôle Médias Belle de Mai ».

The main professional providers are to be found in the Production Guide. They are well equipped with all kinds of material required in the filming production process (set lighting, video camera, car rental services…).

The South of France Film Commission has a direct link with the French national employment agency which has files of professionals, actors, technicians, extras…This service is free and you can also refer to our « Base TAF » section. The South of France Film Commission is able to communicate resume in pdf.

Is it possible to shoot everywhere and at any time of the year in the Var ?
It is usually possible to shoot at any time of the year, yet, lots of sites are inaccessible during the high season because of the great activity. The South of France Film Commission is ready to advise and help you with all the necessary information you need to obtain location and shooting permit.

Where to get those permits ?
It is essential to have the proper authorization to shoot in the Var region. The South of France Film Commission gives you directions and guide you to the competent and appropriate authorities. There is an usual ten days delay to get the documents which in most cases are free to get.

The Var offers lots of possibilities of accommodations and it is better to know that most of them are located on the seaboard. The tourism centers have at your disposal all the information you may need about the addresses and the rates of most of the various region hotels.

Will the South of France Film Commission inform me on the film projects in the Var ?
In accordance with the productions, the South of France Film Commission insures that information on shootings will stay confidential. In most cases, productions do not wish to reveal to the public the location and dates of a shooting. The South of France Film Commission respects those choices.

What is the use of the economic report ?
Whenever a film happens to be shot in the Var, the South of France Film Commission sends a financial form to the production. We consider these information to be of a great importance, informing the local authorities on the economic consequences of the industry in our territories. We also use these documents to show our local corporations their interests to support our actions. We, by this way, expect to improve our services towards professionals and at the same time to create more and more projects and jobs, in developing new markets having an impact on local economy.
